Iranian Consul General to Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Mansour Airom has expressed hope that re-launching the Mashhad-Nakhchivan train will help boost tourism in the neighboring countries over the next year.
Iranian and Azerbaijani railways officials are making efforts to re-launch the Mashhad-Nakhchivan train in the early days of January 2018, the envoy said.
He added that following the recent technical measures aimed at improving the safety of passengers the train was expected to run in early January 2018.
The train, which was launched first in December 2016, stopped running due to technical reasons a few months ago.
The two countries exchange a considerable amount of tourists annually. According to the Azerbaijani Ministry of Culture and Tourism about 340,000 Iranian tourists arrived in the country between January-November. (Trend/Business World Magazine)
