In January-September Moldova’s exports to Russia decreased by 3.5% YoY, to $168.2 million.
At the same time, Russia’s exports to Moldova reduced by 3.5% to $371.4 million. The share of RF in Moldova’s exports shrank from 12% to 11.7%, its share in Moldova’s imports declining from 13% to 12.8%. In the reporting period Russia was Moldova’s second major export and import partner.
In the 9 months of 2016, the unfavorable balance of trade of Moldova with Russia amounted to $203.2 million, down by 3.6% YoY. Experts explain the drastic decline in Moldova’s exports to Russia by the bans Russia has imposed on Moldova’s wine, cognac, fruit, vegetables and meat imports. The bans have been lifted for several companies only.
