Moldovan agricultural goods’ export to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland will be further exempted from certain duties. The Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy and European Integration on May 8 approved the consultative opinion on amending the Strategic Partnership, Trade and Cooperation Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the UK, signed in 2020.
The temporary liberalization of imports of products from Moldova into the UK market will be extended for a period of five years until July 31, 2029.
Currently, import quotas are set for the following agricultural products: tomatoes (272 tons), garlic (30 tons), table grapes (2,724 tons), apples (5,548 tons), cherries (204 tons), plums (2,043 tons) and grape juice (68 tons).
The agreement is being amended to support domestic producers in the context of expanding exports to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. On July 31, 2023, the trade liberalisation measure was applied for one year and would expire in July. Moldova has started exporting apples and cherries to the UK. (Moldpres)
