According to the new, January IMF assessment, in 2026, the Russian GDP will increase by only 0.8% — 0.2 percentage points less than the fund expected in October, and 0.4 percentage points less than the forecast that the IMF gave in January 2025.
As a result, in the current year, the Russian economy will grow four times slower than the global one (+3.3%), and three times slower than the US (2.4%). From China, which the IMF forecasts a 4.5% growth, Russia will lag behind by 5.6 times, and from India — by 8 times. Among the largest economies of the world, the growth rates will be lower than Russia’s only in Japan (+0.7%), the IMF believes (The Moscow Times).
