In 2025, Russians reduced their purchases of clothes and shoes in stores: sales fell by 11% compared to the previous year. This follows from the data of the company “Platform OFD”, which cites “Izvestia”. At the same time, the average check increased by 5% — to 2,988 rubles. The latter happened due to a 10–15% price increase, noted the CEO of Fashion Consulting Group, Anna Lebsack-Kleymans. According to her, sales of clothes are falling against the backdrop of Russians’ savings, who are buying new clothes less often, choosing more versatile models more often, and generally being more cautious about unnecessary purchases.
Retailers, due to declining demand, are forced to optimize their business and focus on efficiency. They mainly choose from three strategies: completely closing all stores and leaving the Russian market (for example, AC&Co, Mudo), closing offline stores and focusing on online sales (22|11 Cosmetics, TECNO), or partially reducing the network (Club, DUB, Ecru, Maag), says the director of the retail real estate department of Nikoliers, Yulia Kuznetsova (The Moscow Times).
