The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved the allocation of a subsidy from the state budget to local budgets for the implementation of projects to construct shelters in educational institutions.
This includes military lyceums, lyceums with enhanced military and physical training, as well as general secondary education institutions located in communities with a high level of risk according to the Methodology for Assessing Security Risks in the Education System.
The list of projects was approved by the relevant commission of the Ministry of Education and Science.
As a reminder, in 2026, the Government envisaged UAH 5 billion in subsidies for the construction of shelters in general secondary education institutions.
Funding will be provided to 28 projects in communities with a very high risk level, totaling UAH 1.94 billion.
These include projects in the Volyn, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Rivne, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kherson, and Chernihiv regions.
Separately, funding has been approved for two projects for military lyceums totaling UAH 100.2 million. The funds will be allocated for the construction of shelters at the Kruty Heroes Lviv Lyceum with Intensive Military and Physical Training and the Lyceum with Enhanced Military and Physical Training of the Air Force in Vinnytsia region.
“The ability to attend school in person today depends directly on safety. In addition to knowledge, children gain the opportunity at school to engage in face-to-face communication, interact with their peers, and experience a sense of normalcy even in wartime. That is why the Government is systematically investing in shelters and supporting communities where this need is most acute. At the same time, it is important that projects are implemented quickly and responsibly at the local level, as this determines how soon children will have the opportunity to return to school. This is a collaborative effort that is gradually changing the situation and giving children the chance to study in safe conditions,” noted Oksen Lisovyi, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine.
Meanwhile, projects in communities with high and moderate risk levels have already been reviewed by the Ministry of Education and Science commission. Their approval via a relevant order is currently underway, after which a draft order for the allocation of funding will be prepared. (Government portal)
