Morocco is Ukraine’s fifth largest trading partner among African countries. In 2021, bilateral trade turnover reached $630 million. Due to the full-scale Russian aggression, trade volumes decreased, but in 2025 they recovered to about $250 million.
This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine Taras Vysotsky during the Ukrainian-Moroccan business forum in Rabat, which brought together representatives of governments and business circles of both countries.
“Morocco is an important trading partner of Ukraine in North Africa. Today, we export grain crops, sunflower oil, oilcake, metal products and other goods to Morocco, and import fertilizers, vegetable products, seafood, cars and clothing. We are interested not only in restoring pre-war trade volumes, but also in expanding economic partnership, developing joint projects, industrial cooperation and strengthening economic ties between our countries,” Taras Vysotsky stressed.
The Deputy Minister paid special attention to Ukraine’s role in ensuring global food security. Despite constant Russian attacks on port infrastructure, grain silos and civilian vessels, Ukraine continues to remain one of the world’s key food suppliers.
“Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russia has damaged or destroyed 726 port infrastructure facilities and at least 156 civilian vessels. At the same time, logistics did not stop: products are supplied to 55 countries of the world through the Ukrainian sea corridor, and since its launch, almost 190 million tons of cargo have been transported, of which 110 million tons are grain. This allows us to maintain the stability of world food markets,” Taras Vysotsky noted.
He separately noted the humanitarian initiative of the President of Ukraine Food from Ukraine, within the framework of which Ukrainian food was supplied to countries in Africa, the Middle East and Asia, as well as to the population of Syria.
At the same time, Ukraine can become a reliable partner for Moroccan business on the way to the European market and strengthening the food security of Africa.
Also within the framework of the business forum, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine and the Moroccan Federation of Chambers of Commerce, which provides for the creation of the Ukrainian-Moroccan Business Council, as well as a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Sea Ports Authority of Ukraine and the National Ports Authority of Morocco.
The Ukrainian delegation, headed by Taras Vysotsky, included representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine, relevant industry associations, the State Service for Food and Consumer Protection, as well as leading Ukrainian companies operating in the fields of agro-industrial complex, food industry, logistics, transport, equipment production, seeds, fertilizers and innovative technologies.
