During one week, five Russian passenger planes had engine failures right during flights. This was reported by the specialized channel “Aviatorstina”. Thus, on March 16, a Sukhoi Superjet 100 of the “Russia” airline, flying from Moscow to St. Petersburg, returned to Sheremetyevo due to increased vibration of the second engine. Earlier, on March 13, the system of oil circulation of the first engine failed on a Boeing 738 of the same airline on the Sochi – Novosibirsk flight.
On March 15, an Airbus A330 of “Aeroflot”, heading from Yekaterinburg to Bangkok, was forced to return to the airport of departure due to a malfunction of the air intake valve of the second engine. On March 12, in Khabarovsk, the reverse thrust of the second engine of an A320neo of “Ural Airlines” did not work during landing, and on March 10, a similar malfunction was recorded in an Airbus A320 of S7 Airlines at Irkutsk airport.
This is just a small part of the systemic problem that has engulfed Russian civil aviation against the backdrop of sanctions. Thus, according to the calculations of “Novaya Gazeta Europe” and the Aviaincident channel, in 2025, the number of aviation incidents with malfunctions leading to flight disruptions increased fourfold compared to 2024, reaching 800 cases (The Moscow Times).
