In Russia, there is an acute shortage of one of the key chemotherapy drugs – “Carboplatin”. The medicine, used to treat lung, ovarian, bladder, and breast cancer, as well as in veterinary medicine for animals with malignant tumors, is almost impossible to find in pharmacies, reports “Caution, News”.
A resident of Penza told the publication that she unsuccessfully called pharmacies in her region for two weeks, and the few packages she found in Yekaterinburg and Vladivostok were sold at prices ranging from 18 to 30 thousand rubles. This is 5-10 times higher than the average market price of the drug, which, according to pharmacological sites, is 2-4 thousand rubles. In the opinion of the publication’s interlocutor, resellers took advantage of the shortage: the medicine “almost immediately disappeared, and then was resold at an inflated price” (The Moscow Times).
