From August 18 to September 1, about 425 million drams in compensation will be allocated for the procurement of around 400 tons of figs and 3,000 tons of peaches.
The relevant decision was adopted at a meeting of the Armenian government. The compensation will be provided under the following terms:
– 125 drams for each kilogram of up to 400 tons of figs procured from Syunik Province for processing;
– 125 drams for each kilogram of peaches procured within Armenia for processing.
The government forecasts an abundant harvest of figs and peaches this year, which is expected to create difficulties with sales. In addition, long export logistics routes, as well as Turkish, Uzbek and Tajik dried fruits being sold on European Union markets at prices about $2 lower, prompted the Armenian government to arrange procurement of these fruits within Armenia.
The decision also states that the government compensation is prompted by existing demand for figs and peaches for the production of dried fruits, preserves, jams, juices and peach puree. However, because of high prices, the volumes of produce procured for processing remain low. (Pan)
