Since January 1, the basic rate of excise duty on tobacco products increases. Kyrgyz President signed the law on March 10, 2015.
According to the document, the basic rates of excise duty in Kyrgyzstan will be gradually equalized with the rates in other countries of the Eurasian Economic Union. The law also aims at reducing tobacco consumption in the country.
The rate of excise on filtered cigarettes increased from 750 to 1,000 soms per 1,000 pieces. The excise tax on cigarettes without filter increased the most – from 100 to 950 soms per 1,000 pieces.
Part of the law came into effect in May 2015. Then the fine for violation of legislation on protection of citizens from the harmful effects of tobacco increased to 500 soms.
Increase of the cost of a pack of cigarettes by an average of 5 KGS is expected by February.
In addition, a number of MPs offer to increase the excise tax on cigarettes in the next two years. They propose to increase it by 100 soms from July 1, 2017, from January 1, 2018 – by 150 soms, and from January 1, 2019 – by 250 soms. (24.kg/Business World Magazine)
