At least 1 billion soms was allocated from the budget for preparation of irrigation system of Kyrgyzstan for 2022, the Minister of Agriculture Askarbek Dzhanybekov said at a press conference in Bishkek.
“The work has already begun. We received the first 100 million back in November 2021. Despite the cold weather, intensive repair of irrigation canals is underway – their cleaning and concreting, mechanical cleaning of irrigation and drainage systems and so on,” he said.
The minister said that water availability was forecast to remain at the same level this year.
“Difficulties with irrigation of farmland will remain. Therefore, we urge our farmers to start moisture accumulating irrigation from early spring, in addition, to consider the use of moisture-saving irrigation systems, such as drip irrigation,” he added. (24.kg/Business World Magazine)
