The Environment Ministry has submitted for public discussion a draft proposal that would impose a temporary ban on exports of whitefish roe from Armenia.
Scientific fishing was conducted in Lake Sevan from December 2025 through February 6, 2026, to assess the natural reproduction of whitefish in 2025-2026 and determine more precisely the timing of spawning stages.
Specialists from the Environment Ministry, Sevan National Park state non-commercial organization and the National Academy of Sciences’ Scientific Center of Zoology and Hydroecology participated in the work.
To ensure the natural reproduction of whitefish, a comprehensive program of strengthened measures has been implemented annually from late November through February of the following year. Its purpose is to prevent illegal fishing during the period when whitefish fishing is prohibited.
The draft proposes banning for six months the export from the Republic of Armenia of Armenian-origin roe from whitefish belonging to the salmonid family, classified under Eurasian Economic Union Foreign Economic Activity Commodity Nomenclature codes 0302 91 000 0, 0303 91, 1604 32 001 0 and 0511 91 901 9.
