The Commission for the Protection of Competition (CPC) has requested detailed information from producers and traders of food products in order to establish the specific pricing method, delivery conditions and other factors affecting the formation of their retail price. The study will cover such basic food products as eggs, dairy products, meat, flour, bread and vegetable oil. After analyzing the information received, if there is any doubt about the use of prohibited commercial practices, the CPC promised to use its powers in order to restore real competition in the sector.
The organizers of the boycott of retail chains that took place on February 13 – the Federation of Consumers in Bulgaria, the association “For Affordable and Quality Food”, “United Pensioners’ Unions” and “The System is Killing Us” – called on Bulgarian citizens to hold a second boycott. At the same time, they called on citizens to make purchases in small local shops in order to support small local businesses. The Ministry of Finance has not yet announced data on the turnover realized by hypermarkets on the day of the boycott. (Novinite)
