The Belarusian mechanical engineering company Gomselmash has sent the first batch of cotton harvesters to Cameroon, Igor Korotkevich, First Deputy Director of the company’s Regional Sales Department, reported.
The harvesters will be delivered to Cameroon in roughly one month.
“By that time our specialists will have arrived in Cameron in order to prepare the machines for field operation and take part in their testing”, the Gomselmash representative said.
During the initial stage of cooperation the harvesters will be tested in conditions of Cameroon’s hot and humid climate. Besides, plans have been made to arrange a special seminar with a demonstration of the vehicle’s capabilities for potential dealers from neighboring Western Africa countries where large areas under cotton plant are available, including Mali, Cote d’Ivoire, Togo, and Benin.
“Most of the cotton in the region is harvested manually. Our harvester is designed specifically to match the local cotton growing technology, this is why it will allow increasing labor productivity many times over”, Korotkevich noted.
Gomselmash finished designing its own cotton harvester in late 2014. The harvester can be coupled with the MTZ 80X tractor. The harvester has already been tested in action in field conditions of Central Asia countries. The harvester is designed to lift cotton plants in order to smoothly cut them.
The Belarusian holding company Gomselmash stemmed from the Gomselmash factory that was founded in 1930. Gomselmash is one of the top manufacturers of agricultural machines in the CIS states and Europe. The company offers self-propelled and towed forage harvesters, mower balers, grain harvesters, mounted mower shredders, potato harvesters and beet harvesters. (BelTA/Business World Magazine)
