Azerbaijani investors aim to build a petrochemical plant in Turkey’s eastern province of Van province’s governor Rahmi Dogan reported.
Dogan said that the new plant would use modern technologies and help open more than 100 new jobs.
He also noted that liquefied natural gas (LNG) and other raw materials for the plant would be delivered from Azerbaijan via the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway.
Earlier, Turkey’s Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communication Ahmet Arslan said that the BTK railway together with other railway projects, which were being built, would bring billions of dollars annually for Turkey’s logistics sector.
The BTK railway is being constructed on the basis of the Georgian-Azerbaijani-Turkish intergovernmental agreement.
Azerbaijan allocated a loan of $775 million for the construction of the railway’s Georgian section. SOFAZ (The State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan) finances the project in accordance with the Azerbaijani president’s decree ‘On the implementation of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars project activities’, dated February 21, 2007.
The peak capacity of the railway will be 17 million tons of cargo per year. At the initial stage, this figure will be 1 million passengers and 6.5 million tons of cargo. (Trend/Business World Magazine)
