All countries involved in the North-South Transport Corridor project have connected to the cargo transportation process, reads the message of the ADY Express company, logistics operator of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC.
The company implemented reception, handling and shipment of three out of five 40-foot universal containers loaded with electrical equipment and spare parts in Azerbaijan’s Astara district to the point of destination for the first time within the framework of transportations via the North-South Transport Corridor, according to the message.
These universal containers were sent as test ones from the Indian city of Bangalore to Vorsino station in Russia.
“The containers were delivered by sea from the Indian city of Mumbai to the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas, where they were sent to Astara by car”, says the message. “From there, the containers were sent to Russia by rail. One can say that already all the countries participating in the North-South Transport Corridor project have joined the cargo transportation process”.
The company said that a few days ago ADY Express carried out another operation on cargo transportations via the South-West corridor.
“Ten 20-foot containers with marble sent from Iran to Europe were transshipped from road transport to rail transport and sent from Azerbaijan’s Astara station”, reads the message.
The route of the South-West corridor is as follows: India – Persian Gulf – Iran – Azerbaijan – Georgia – Black Sea – Europe.
At the initial stage, it is planned to transport 10,000 tons of cargo via this route with the possibility of increasing it several times in the future.
The agreement on the South-West transportation corridor was signed in 2016 by Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran and Ukraine in Baku. The corridor will make it possible to reduce the time of cargo transportation from India to Europe two or three times. (Trend/Business World Magazine)
