The Sommers, lead ship of TSHD 1000 design, built for FSUE Rosmorport, commenced operations at the seaport of Makhachkala on July 23.
Rosmorport says the dredger will perform the most urgent maintenance dredging to debottleneck the access channel and the basin of the port’s oil harbor. The work on dredging to the design depth will be completed by the end of 2016.
The statement says this dredging is an important task focused on considerable increase of Makhachkala seaport traffic.
The Sommers is the lead vessel of a series of three TSHDs 1000 being built for Rosmorport. The TSHD 1000 was designed by Damen Shipyards Gorinchem (Netherlands) while working design documentation was provided by Volga-Caspian Design Bureau (MNP Group, Russia). The ship has been delivered this year. Sea trials of the Sommers were successfully completed in June.
Vessel characteristics: LOA – 62,6 m; beam – 14 m; draft – 4,25 m: hopper capacity – 1000 cubic meters; deadweight – 1685 tons. The TSHD 1000 series vessels feature outstanding dredging capabilities to dredge to a depth of 20 meters and operate at water temperatures of -2 ø C to + 20 ø C. (Portnews/Business World Magazine)
