Several farmers came on June 20 with tractors to the center of the capital for a protest action.
They parked their tractors in the Great National Assembly Square. They were dissatisfied with the situation in the agricultural field, which, according to them, was influenced by the war in Ukraine and last year’s drought. At the same time, the farmers requested the support of the authorities to identify solutions to their problems.
On June 19, a new round of discussions took place at the government between Prime Minister Dorin Recean and representatives of the Force of Farmers Association. The current challenges in the agricultural sector were addressed against the backdrop of the regional crisis and the protest announced by the association. Recean said that the government had allocated an additional 533 million lei (26.6 million euros) in support of farmers affected by the regional economic crisis and is also trained in identifying solutions to substitute exports and compensate the losses suffered by farmers.
Force of Farmers Association’s representatives reiterated their demands on the possibility to expand the VAT refund program and increase the range of beneficiaries. They also requested the compensation of production costs for small and medium-sized farmers in the amount of at least 3,000 lei per hectare, for agricultural crops of the first group.
