The French Development Agency (AFD) will support the energy sector in the Republic of Moldova in the coming years, French Ambassador to Chisinau Graham Paul has said.
According to the official, until the end of the year, AFD will grant the country 60 million euros as a public policy loan in support of the strategic sectors – energy and railway.
“These are two of the priorities that have been identified. In addition to this budget financing, technical assistance is provided to Moldelectrica in the energy field, and Moldova Railway in the railway field. This funding is very flexible and can allow the Government to use it as needed in different areas,” said Graham Paul.
The ambassador said that AFD’s support for the energy sector would continue in the coming years.
“At the Support Platform Conference for Moldova organized in Paris on November 21, President Emmanuel Macron, who met with the head of state Maia Sandu announced an additional commitment from the AFD in 2023-2024 of at least 90 million euros. The goal is to continue this support and possibly increase it,” he said.
The official said that currently support for the forestry sector was also being discussed. Also, several investment projects are being identified in the following sectors: infrastructure, railway and irrigation. (Moldpres/Business World Magazine)
