Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili on May 12 inspected the ongoing construction of a residential district on the outskirts of Tbilisi, with the project designed for service members and their families and dubbed Army City.
Accompanied by Defence Minister Juansher Burchuladze to observe the work on Makhata Mountain in the northern part of the city, Garibashvili said the policy of his Government was to offer “the best” to the army, and pledged projects supporting it would continue in the future.
The construction works of the district are scheduled to be completed until the end of 2022, with 39 seven-storey apartment blocks being built. The district will offer 1,092 flats to service members and their families.
Military personnel will be able to purchase housing on preferential terms and with a 50% co-pay, and take advantage of interest-free internal payments instead of bank loans.
Instead of a private company, the construction is carried out by a company of the Ministry of Defence, effecting a “significant reduction” of cost for the future owners of the flats, the Government Administration said. The estimated cost per square meter of the flats will be about $200, with the service members paying about $100 toward the cost. (Agenda/Business World Magazine)
