The productivity of hydroelectric power plants in Uzbekistan fell by 23% due to low water levels, which led to short-term power cuts in some areas of the country, the Ministry of Energy reported.
According to calculations of the Ministry of Energy, in 2020 and 2021, the amount of electricity generation by hydroelectric power plants in Uzbekistan dropped to 5 billion kWh against 6.5 billion kWh in 2019, and the missing 1.5 billion kWh would be enough to supply the entire population of the country with electricity for one month in the autumn and winter period.
Due to the reduction in the volume of electricity generation at hydroelectric power plants in some areas of Uzbekistan there are short-term power outages.
Electricity consumption in Uzbekistan is expected to grow to 110 billion kWh until 2030. Meanwhile, Uzbekistan has resumed importing electricity from neighboring Central Asian countries over the past two years to meet the needs of the population and industry, especially during the peak load in winter.
