Silk Way West Airlines, an Azerbaijani cargo airline, will launch cargo flights from the US city of Chicago to the Georgian capital of Tbilisi and Azerbaijani capital of Baku, Georgian Economy Minister Natia Turnava has announced.
She said that this was a positive fact for the Georgian economy.
“First, it is important that cargo flights from the US will be carried out in Georgia. Second, freight and cargo transportation is on the rise and in 2020-2021 we have very good dynamics”, Turnava said.
Cargo flights will be carried out following the so-called “Fifth Freedom of the Air”, according to which Silk Way West Airlines will transport some of the cargo from the US first to Tbilisi and then to Baku.
“Accordingly, the landing of the air carrier in Tbilisi will have commercial purposes”, announces the Ministry of Economy of Georgia.
Civil Aviation Agency granted a permit to the Azerbaijani cargo airline to operate on the Chicago-Tbilisi-Baku route on August 6. (Agenda/Business World Magazine)
