In April, actual unemployment rate comprised 8%, down by 0.1% MoM.
The unemployment rate among women remained at 7.5% in April, whereas among men it decreased by 0.1%, to 8.5%, according to data of the Labour Force Survey (LFS) conducted by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB).
Unemployment rate registered by the State Employment Agency (NVA) accounted for 7.9%, down by 0.3%.
Unemployment rate decrease may be observed when comparing the data to the April of the previous year – of 0.5% in actual unemployment rate and 0.1% in registered unemployment rate.
In April, there were 73.6 thousand unemployed persons in Latvia, down by 1 thousand MoM and by 9.4 thousand YoY, when the first emergency situation in the country had been declared for a month.
Since the second declaration of the emergency situation in November 2020 when a number of on-site services were restricted, the number of unemployed persons had decreased by 2 thousand.
Registered unemployment rate is calculated based on the SEA data and results of LFS conducted by the CSB. Unadjusted monthly estimates of the survey are used for calculations of the actual unemployment rate. SEA data are only on population of working age. (BNN/Business World Magazine)
