Distribution companies should buy electricity from small hydropower plants at 4.7 soms per kilowatt-hour, Azamat Omorov, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Industry, Energy and Subsoil Use of the Kyrgyz Republic, said at a meeting of the Committee for Agrarian Policy, Water Resources and Ecology.
According to him, the first stage of the tender for the right to build small hydropower stations took place on June 14: six companies submitted applications for the construction of 11 power facilities (of the planned 14).
“Five companies have passed to the second stage, which will be held at the end of July,” Azamat Omorov said.
He noted that small hydropower stations would be built by investors at their own expense, and the state would buy electricity from them.
“Distribution companies will be obliged to buy electricity from small hydropower stations, and the burden will be on them,” the official said.
According to him, $20-25 million will be spent on the construction of a small hydropower plant. After the construction of all 14 small hydropower plants, they will be able to cover 6% of Kyrgyzstan’s electricity needs. (24.kg/Business World Magazine)
