In January-May the Freeport of Riga handled 14,879,700 tons of cargo, down by -4% YoY.
Coal transshipment climbed by 10.4%, to 5,531,700 tons, oil products dropped by 30.8%, to 2,845,500 tons, wood pellets increased by 14.5%, to 323,600 tons, ore – by 0.2%, to 164,900 tons.
The port’s container throughput grew by 12.9%, to 174,585 TEUs.
Passenger turnover increased by 38.6%, to 271,637 people, including 16,225 cruise passengers (+65.4%).
Freeport of Riga lies on both banks of the River Daugava covering 6.3 hectares. The port’s berth length is 13,800 m, maximum draft at the berths is 12.2 m. Up to 80% of the Freeport of Riga cargo turnover is made up of transit cargoes forwarded to or received from the CIS countries. In 2016, the port’s throughput totaled 37,070,300 tons of cargo.
