The National Bank of Moldova (BNM) put into circulation six commemorative coins as payment and numismatic.
According to BNM’s press service, the series “Personalities” will be completed with the coin dedicated to celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of artist Mihai Grecu, a Moldovan artist who boosted fine arts in Moldova. The coin represents effigy of the artist and was struck in gold and silver. Gold coin has a value of 100 lei and a print of 100 units. Silver coin has a value of 50 lei and a print of 200 units.
Another silver coin supplements series “Historical events” and is dedicated to celebrating 300 years from the first edition of Dimitrie Cantemir’s monograph “Description of Moldova”. The coin has a value of 100 lei and a print of 250 units.
Series “Holidays, culture, traditions of Moldova” covers a silver coin dedicated to traditional dance “Hora”. The coin has a value of 50 lei and a print of 250 units.
Series “Sanctuaries” includes coin “180 years from the construction of “Lord’s Birth” Cathedral in Chisinau”. It has a nominal value of 50 lei and a print of 250 units.
The range of new coins put into circulation on December 30, 2016 concludes the coin “Red-neck-goose” from the series of the “Red Book of Moldova”, which is a call to the protection of endangered flora and fauna. It is made of silver and has a value of 50 lei and print of 250 pieces.
The commemorative coins are packaged in transparent plastic capsules and boxes and are accompanied by certificates of authenticity, written in Romanian and English, which have the signature of Governor of the National Bank of Moldova on them.
The jubilee and commemorative coins issued by BNM are sold via authorized banks of Moldova.
The selling price of jubilee and commemorative coins is determined independently by licensed banks from Moldova in the amount of up to 3% above the price at which they were purchased from BNM. (TRM/Business World Magazine)
