Azerbaijan intends to increase energy efficiency by 20% till 2020, Director of the Institute for Scientific Research on Economic Reforms (ISRER) under the Ministry of Economy of the country Vilayat Veliyev said.
He said that these objectives were described in “Azerbaijan 2020: Look into the Future” concept of development adopted by the country’s president.
“In particular, it is planned to reduce the volumes of gas emissions from boilers by 20%, bring the share of renewable energy in total production to 20% and increase the energy efficiency by 20% as part of the concept”, Veliyev said.
He noted that it was necessary to carry out a number of conditions to achieve these objectives.
“There is a need to improve the legal framework, and the work in this direction is already underway”, Veliyev added. “It’s also necessary to strengthen the institutional framework, create a controlled environment, and the proposals for the creation of a regulator have already been submitted to the government of Azerbaijan”.
“It is also necessary to decide on investment plans in this area, as well as to approve of the tariff and pricing policy based on separate adequate rates”, Veliyev said. (Trend/Business World Magazine)
