National energy company Ukrenergo believes that the key tasks for European integration is the complete integration of Ukrainian power grid with the European Network of Transmission System Operators (ENTSO-E) and the introduction of a new market model in line with the bill on the electricity market passed at first reading.
Ukrenergo Director for Communications and International Cooperation Mykhailo Bno-Airiian said that the introduction of the market model and complete harmonization with ENTSO-E was to end before 2020.
“Despite a pinch of salt from experts, the time difference between the full introduction of the market model and the complete harmonization cannot exceed three years. According to our estimates, this is an absolutely acceptable and realistic term”, he said.
He said that the Ukraine-EU ‘Energy Bridge’ project could become a first stage for the full harmonization of the Ukrainian power grid with ENTSO-E.
Bno-Airiian said that the study of the project on harmonizing the Ukrainian and Moldovan power grids with the power grid of the continental Europe had been finished.
“The study confirmed the technical possibility of parallel work of the Ukrainian power grid with ENTSO-E. Today ENTSO-E experts, representatives of some systemic operators, Ukrenergo and Moldelectrica have created a project group. The group is to prepare a catalog of measures to meet ENTSO-E procedures and show clearly what technical and institutional steps are to be made to harmonize the power grids. The catalog is to be approved and published early next year”, Ukrenergo said. (Interfax/Business World Magazine)
