As of October 24, winter crops had been sown at 5952 thousand ha, or 81% of the forecasted area – 7374 thousand ha.
This included 5260 thousand ha of winter wheat and triticale (85% from the planned 6198 thousand ha), 148 thousand ha of rye (100% of 147 thousand ha), 544 thousand ha of barley (53% of 1028 thousand ha).
Winter grain sowing is slower than last year mainly due to delay in winter barley sowing progress. As of October 24, 2015 winter barley had been sown at 637 thousand ha, or 68% of the plan.
Ukrainian farmers continue harvesting grains. Corn harvesting progress remains the lowest in the last several years and is 35% behind last year. (UkrAgroConsult/Business World Magazine)
