On September 12-18, hot weather retained all over Moldova with lack of rains. Average air temperatures during the week reached +19-22.4 C, which was higher than the norm by 5-6 C. Maximum air temperature increased to +34 C, which was observed once in 20 years.
At 80% of the territory total sum of precipitations was only 1-8 mm (10-60% of the weekly norm). In the Northern parts their amount was higher – 9-16 mm (75-140% of the weekly norm).
Weather during the week contributed to further drying of the upper soil layers, which was unfavorable for further winter crops sowing. Local rains observed at the end of the reporting week slightly improved soil moisture condition. Farmers continued to harvest sunflower and corn. (UkrAgroConsult/Business World Magazine)
