In Russia, it is planned to build 2,062 new civilian ships by 2035, but funding for almost 1,500 of them has not yet been determined. This follows from the updated government’s prospective plan for civilian shipbuilding, sources familiar with the document told “Vedomosti”. According to them, the authorities are ready to allocate 1.14 trillion rubles from the budget for the construction of 593 ships. However, this amount will not be enough for their production: 1.87 trillion rubles should be invested by the customer companies from their own funds, and another 290 billion rubles will come through leasing programs. At the moment, contracts have been signed for the construction of 358 ships, 79 contracts have not yet been confirmed by the customers, and another 71 have already been completed.
In particular, the government’s plan envisages the construction of 115 ice-class ships for the Northern Sea Route (NSR). Five of them are currently being built. Under the investment quota program (“quota under the keel” – issuing permits for fishing or marine bioresources in exchange for investments in new ships), the construction of 107 ships in the first stage and 34 ships in the second stage has been ensured, according to data from Rosrybolovstvo. So far, 48 ships have been built, 46 of which are from the first stage of the program, a source of “Vedomosti” explained. According to his data, a total of 67 ships with a total cost of more than 278 billion rubles have been built in both stages with solvent demand (The Moscow Times).
