In June-July, the Republic of Moldova exported a record amount of cherries compared to previous years – over 14 thousand tons, at the same time accessing new markets, the US Agency for International Development (USAID) announced.
The evolution of the sector is due to the efforts of agricultural producers and investments in new varieties and production technologies through the complex assistance provided by the USAID High-Value Agriculture Activity.
The project contributed to procurement of the first cherry sorting and calibration equipment in the Republic of Moldova; production of customized cardboard boxes for the export of cherries; first certification of cherries according to GLOBALG.A.P. standards; identification of new export markets for Moldovan cherries: Spain, Italy, France, Germany and the Netherlands.
“USAID supports fruit producers in the Republic of Moldova to help them implement innovative solutions, increase the volume of quality production, become competitive and access high-value international markets,” summarized the US Agency. (Moldpres/Business World Magazine)
