Dozens of prizes and medals were handed to the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Italy for the absolute success of Moldovan wines in the 21st edition of the “Citta de Vino” International Wine Competition, organized in Italy.
Moldovan wines participated for the first time in the “Citta De Vino” International Oenological Challenge Contest where they won 17 gold medals, including 5 large gold medals. Participation in the specialized competition was organized by the National Vine and Wine Office with the support of the USAID through the Competitiveness and Rural Resilience Project in Moldova.
“These remarkable results make us proud of Moldovan Wine and validate the efforts of the wine industry to produce wines of the highest quality and to create international notoriety for the Republic of Moldova, becoming an ambassador product of our country,” said Vadim Motarschi, secretary of the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Rome.
“Present for the first time at this competition, we aimed to increase the transfer of knowledge and technologies between Moldovan and Italian producers, in order to be connected to the trends of the European market and to promote wines with a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) and with the Designation of Protected Origin (PDO), as well as the wine tourism potential of our country,” said Elizaveta Breahna, interim director of the National Vine and Wine Office.
During the first six months of this year, Moldovan wineries participated in 14 international competitions and were awarded with 268 gold medals and 177 silver medals. Systematic participation in international competitions is part of the marketing and promotion plan implemented under the auspices of the national wine brand “Wine of Moldova”.
