President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola signed in Strasbourg the agreement reached by MEPs and member countries on granting 145 million euros of macro-financial aid to the Republic of Moldova, according to the official’s Twitter page.
“Three weeks ago, in Chisinau, I told the people of Moldova that they were not alone. Today, we are delivering an additional EUR 145 million to support reforms in Moldova as the country continues to defy Russian threats. The future of Moldova is in the European Union,” wrote Metsola.
On May 30, the Council of the European Union approved doubling the macro-financial assistance granted to the Republic of Moldova from 150 million euros to 295 million euros. The EU’s macro-financial assistance aims to support the economic recovery and the structural reform agenda of the Republic of Moldova, supplementing the resources made available under the agreement with the IMF, a press release of the EU Council reads.
Of the total amount, 220 million are offered as loans and 75 million – grants. (Moldpres/Business World Magazine)
