The concept of the Mobility Strategy for 2023-2030 defines the Government’s policy in transport and transport infrastructure in order to develop an accessible, sustainable, interoperable and safe transport system, in line with the provisions of the National Development Strategy “European Moldova 2030”. Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Lilia Dabija presented the document on March 16.
According to the official, the Mobility Strategy aims to set the objectives that will ensure the sustainable development of the transport sector and an efficient management of the field in order to improve the efficiency of passenger and cargo transport, improve the infrastructure, the connectivity of the strategic transport network of Moldova to international transport networks, especially the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), with a minimal impact on environment.
“The Republic of Moldova will develop the current system of roads, railways, airports, seaports in an integrated network to ensure interconnection and interoperability to the Trans-European Transport Networks (TEN-T), which will contribute to the development of the internal market, to the consolidation of the economic and social cohesion of the state,” said Dabija.
Among the priorities of the Mobility Strategy, the minister named ensuring the planning of a safe and high-quality infrastructure; ensuring the mobility of people and goods in the best social and safety conditions; ensuring the acceleration of the digitization of transport systems; ensuring the transition to environmentally friendly transport models.
“Elaboration of the strategy is necessary in the social and economic activity, as well as for raising the level of competitiveness of the country. To a large extent, the document is conditioned by the low level of access of vulnerable groups to physical infrastructure; increase in the number of vehicles driven in traffic; increasing the average age of vehicles in traffic; deterioration of the quality of national and local roads; the negative effect of transport on the environment,” according to the minister.
The concept of the Mobility Strategy is to be worked out until October and the implementation period is 2023-2030. The Strategy Program will be carried out from budgetary sources, as well as from means of the development partners. (Moldpres/Business World Magazine)
