169 bridges in the Republic of Moldova are in unsatisfactory condition, and 55 of them will be repaired or reconstructed in the period of 2023-2024. The figures were presented by the State Road Administration (ASD).
According to ASD, during this year repair works are planned for 17 bridges from the means of the Road Fund, and the duration of the execution of the works is diverse, multi-year as the case may be, depending on the complexity of the implemented solutions. Another 38 bridges will be repaired from external funding sources. As a priority, the interventions will be carried out at bridges where deterioration and deficiencies that reduce the level of road safety, durability and load-bearing capacity of the structural elements are attested.
Currently, more than 20 bridges are in the process of repair or reconstruction and another 35 are at the design or expertise stage. In the period 2021-2022, 52 bridges on national public roads were built or repaired. The works were financed from the Road Fund and from external sources. ASD explained that last year, the final price for the construction or repair of a bridge increased by about 50%, in particular due to the increase in the market price of construction materials.
There are a total of 6,800 bridges in the Republic of Moldova. 877 of these are under the management of the ASD. (Moldpres/Business World Magazine)
