Due to infrastructure works, the popular Vilnius-Klaipeda link will see reduced service between February and May. The Kaunas-Siauliai connection will also be affected.
“There will be two train connections to Klaipeda on normal days,” said Linas Bauzys, head of the passenger service branch of the Lithuanian railways, LTG Link.
Meanwhile, trains will not run on the Kaunas-Siauliai route during weekdays, he has added.
The disruptions are caused by electrification projects, which are due to be completed in 2025. Other disruptions to train services are expected during this time.
According to Bauzys, the trains will run a normal service during Easter.
Last year, around 370,000 people traveled on local routes per month.
Meanwhile, bus operators are preparing to launch more connections to help fill the gap, including on public holidays – February 16, March 11 and Easter. (LRT/Business World Magazine)
