Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko welcomed the start of IAEA missions at all Ukrainian NPPs. Together with the IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, Acting Head of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine Oleh Korikov and President of NNEGC Energoatom Petro Kotin, the Head of the Ministry of Energy visited the South Ukraine NPP and took part in the IAEA flag-raising ceremony.
“We welcome the start of IAEA missions at another four nuclear power plants of Ukraine. The direct presence of representatives of the international agency at all Ukrainian NPPs will allow to assess from the inside all the hazards and threats to nuclear and radiation safety posed by russia’s military actions,” emphasized German Galushchenko.
The minister reminded that russia had been conducting targeted shelling of Ukrainian energy facilities for more than three months. During one of them, a systemic accident occurred, as a result of which all nuclear power plants in Ukraine were simultaneously de-energized.
“Due to russian shelling, four nuclear power plants operated on backup power from diesel generators simultaneously. And at that time russian missiles were still flying, each of them could hit the plants and lead to unpredictable consequences. We must stop this nuclear terrorism by russia,” German Galushchenko stressed. (Government portal/Business World Magazine)
