During New Year’s holidays, Russia may try to deal a significant blow to Ukraine’s power system. If no new damage is incurred to the grid, Ukrainians will be able to enjoy a few days without blackouts. This was announced by Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko, who spoke on national television.
“The Russians have not given up on attacking the power system. They are sticking to certain dates. And maybe the New Year is one of those dates when they will try to damage our power system as much as possible,” he said.
At the same time, Galushchenko emphasized that it was difficult to assess the scale of possible shelling or damage. However, he noted his hopes rested with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which, as shown by recent shelling, protected the sky over Ukraine quite effectively.
Meanwhile, the minister noted that Ukrainians could count on several days of uninterrupted energy supply on the occasion of the New Year holidays if no new massive strikes occurred. According to the official, every day the situation in the energy sector is improving: it is possible to increase generation and deliver electricity to consumers.
“The entire energy industry today works 24/7. And the results of their work can be seen every hour,” the minister said. (Ukrinform/Business World Magazine)
