On May 30, Lithuania started administering the fourth dose of coronavirus vaccine to the most vulnerable people, with others planned to be offered an extra booster shot toward the autumn, the Health Ministry said.
As of May 30, the vaccination is open to all adults with chronic immunosuppressive diseases or other serious immune deficiencies, as well as to people undergoing treatment with immunosuppressive drugs.
Elderly people and others at the highest risk of getting seriously ill with the virus are likely to be recommended to get their fourth vaccine shot toward the autumn, according to the ministry.
Currently, children aged five years and over can receive their first coronavirus vaccine dose. Booster shots are available to all people aged 12 and over.
Almost 70% of the Lithuanian population has already been vaccinated with one, two or three vaccine doses, and the overall public immunisation rate against Covid-19 exceeds 80%. (LRT/Business World Magazine)
