Vilnius Airport officially opened new passenger departure terminal on February 4, considered one of the most advanced in the world.
The terminal, which took over a year and a half to build and cost around 50 million euros, features state-of-the-art equipment and utilises artificial intelligence, according to Lithuanian Airports.
It is equipped with systems that will eventually allow passengers to keep liquids in their bags during security checks, though current EU regulations do not yet permit this. It also has seven baggage screening lines and scanners.
Built by Eikos Statyba, the new 14,400-square-meter terminal is expected to double the airport’s passenger handling capacity from 1,200 to 2,400 travellers per hour.
Eikos Statyba also renovated Vilnius Airport’s 30,000-square meter central square in a 9.5-million euro project. Opened to passengers and vehicles in August 2024, the redesigned area now offers three times as many parking spaces. (LRT)
