The European Union will provide over 420,000 euros for backing competitive businesses on both banks of the Dniester, within the European Union’s Confidence Building Programme, implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). A ceremony on providing the certificates on grant for two contests held within the programme took place on May 19.
According to UNDP, 13 young people selected out of those 98 participants in the contest titled “Mentorship in business – Start for young people” will benefit from grants worth up to 15,000 euros. Besides the financial assistance, the entrepreneurs will benefit from counseling for extending the entrepreneurial activity. The contest is at its fifth issue. Due to the grants provided by EU, 57 new enterprises have been set up so far and over 300 new jobs were created on the left bank of the Dniester and in the Security Zone.
Within the contest, Creation of synergies for competitive business communities on both banks of the Dniester, six projects will be backed, worth 40,000 euros each, which are based on the cooperation of entrepreneurs from both banks of the Dniester. Among the activities planned is the enhancement of the level of digitalization and automation of the administrative processes, formation of digital competences for entrepreneurs from the creative industries, development of tourism, cooperation of beekeepers from both banks of the Dniester.
“By supporting these business initiatives, we back the creation of new jobs, the getting of higher incomes, innovations, all these with a positive impact on both banks of the Dniester. Although the winner proposals show quite different fields, all of them have in common the wish to work together and turn to good account the present advantages, which stays at the basis of the cooperation between the two banks of the Dniester, this being also the essence of the programme financed by the European Union – building confidence,” European Union’s Ambassador to Moldova Janis Mazeiksz said.
