Georgian wheat production in 2021 increased by 32.9% YoY, to 136,100 tons, while the production of vegetables decreased by 15.4%, to 149,000 tons, the National Statistics Office of Georgia announced.
The figures were revealed by Geostat along with statistics on other cereal grains produced last year. Barley production went up to 58,300 tons (+28.4%), while maize amounted to 233,000 tons (-8.6%).
The production of potatoes increased by 12.7%, to 235,100 tons last year, the data of the Geostat revealed. The average yield of maize and vegetables in the country was reduced in 2021 compared to the previous year, while the figure grew for wheat, barley and potato.
The production of pome fruit declined last year, posting a 16.2% reduction, to 85,600 tons, while the production of stone fruit decreased by 5.4%, to 57,400 tons.
Geostat also revealed the production of grapes in Georgia had decreased by 15.1%, to 269,200 tons.
The sown areas of annual crops in the country amounted to 212,100 hectares in 2021, up by 1%, of which 64,300 hectares were for winter crops and 147,800 hectares for spring corps. (Agenda/Business World Magazine)
