The Lithuanian parliament voted on January 18 to reject proposals on liberalizing the rules on alcohol sales.
The amendments, drafted by the ruling conservative-liberal coalition, included proposals to lower legal drinking age and extend alcohol-selling time.
However, MPs rejected individual proposals as well as the amendment bill, which was voted down 63 to 51.
Under the current rules, adopted by the previous parliament, legal drinking age is set at 20. Supermarkets can sell alcohol from 10:00 to 20:00 Mondays to Fridays and from 10:00 to 15:00 on Sundays.
The proposals included lowering drinking age back to 18 and extending selling time to 20:00 on Sundays. (LRT/Business World Magazine)
