The director of Uzbekistan’s Anti-Corruption Agency Akmal Burkhanov announced the statistics of detected corruption crimes for the past year and the first half of 2021, committed by officials of various levels.
According to him, a total of 1,723 officials were brought to criminal responsibility in 2020. The damage from corruption amounted to $46.8 million, 71% of this amount was reimbursed following the investigation.
He added that last year the most criminal cases were initiated under articles 167, embezzlement, 168, fraud, and 184, evasion of taxes or other mandatory payments of the Criminal Code. The biggest corruption was detected within the structures of the Health Ministry. Mostly corrupted spheres were also the banking, Preschool Education, land resources committee, etc. (Uzreport/Business World Magazine)
