Georgia has already exported 1,334 tons of hazelnuts this year – twice as much as the country exported in the same period of last year, said the Georgian Ministry of Agriculture.
The major European countries to which Georgia has exported hazelnuts are: Germany – 350 tons, Italy – 289 tons, the Czech Republic – 110 tons, Spain – 93 tons, Poland – 66 tons and Lithuania – 44 tons.
Other European countries to which Georgia has exported hazelnuts this year are: Ukraine (39 tons), Great Britain (22 tons), Austria (22 tons), Estonia (22 tons), Belarus (21 tons), Latvia (21 tons), France (20 tons) and Greece (10 tons).
Georgian hazelnuts have also been exported to Armenia (110 tons), Russia (44 tons), Mexico (25 tons) and Brazil (24 tons).
Georgia expects to harvest 50,000 tons of high-quality hazelnuts this year, says the Georgian Ministry of Agriculture.
Despite the coronavirus crisis, negotiations have been carried out with exporters and associations of hazelnut producers, as a result of which hazelnuts are still making it to export, says the ministry. (Agenda/Business World Magazine)
