In the first 5 months of 2019 Azerbaijan imported 551.1 thousand tons of wheat, up by 14.6% YoY, reported the State Customs Committee.
Imports in monetary terms increased even more significantly – by 47.9%, to $124.5 million.
Moreover, in January-May the imports of sugar increased to 136.1 thousand tons (up 6.2-fold) at $51.158 million (up 5.2-fold), cattle meat – 3.58 thousand tons (+0.7%) at $11.315 million (+5.7%), as well as poultry meat and edible offal – 14.8 thousand tons (+18%) at $15.66 million (+16.8%).
At the same time, in the reporting period the imports of edible oils declined to 46.89 thousand tons (by 23.3%) at the sum of $35.76 million (-31.9%).
In terms of the exports, in January-May Azerbaijan supplied 16.77 thousand tons of sugar (+3.9%) at the sum of $7.41 million (-24.1%), and 2.65 thousand tons of edible oils (-25.1%) at the sum of $2.56 million (-21.1%) to the foreign market. (APK-Inform/Business World Magazine)
