Freight volume handled at the Port of Klaipeda in January-February grew by 6% YoY, to 7.25 million tons, the Port Authority statistics said.
Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo grew by 7.6%, to 1.98 million tons, and general cargo – by 19.7%, to 2.28 million tons, while dry bulk cargo fell by 3.4%, to 2.99 million tons.
In the reporting period Butinge Terminal handled 1.47 million tons of oil (+21.6%).
The port’s passenger throughput grew by 12.1%, to 21,700 passengers.
The number of calls totaled 1,059.
The state-run Port of Klaipeda, the northernmost ice-free port on the East coast of the Baltic Sea, is the largest Lithuanian transport hub, connecting sea and inland traffic lanes. There are 17 stevedore companies, shipyards and other operators at the port, providing a broad range of services. Throughput of Klaipeda port in 2017 totaled 43.17 million tons.
