The current electricity rates enable the broader adoption of electric transport in Belarus, Belarusian Energy Minister Vladimir Potupchik reported.
According to the source, the current electricity rates are much more economical than filling the car’s tank with gasoline or diesel fuel. The rates are an incentive to use electric cars. The upkeep of electric cars is low. The bulk of the costs is associated with the development of the necessary infrastructure. In line with the program on developing the charging infrastructure and electric transport in Belarus, the number of electric vehicles in the country is supposed to reach 32,700 by 2025 according to the optimistic scenario, including 30,820 electric cars and 1,880 electric buses. The program’s projects and measures will be financed by the central state budget, direct investments, and money of investors on public private partnership terms.
Electric transport has a positive effect on the environment thanks to fewer fuel and energy resources spent on producing conventional fuels and hence reducing harmful emissions even further. (BelTA/Business World Magazine)
